Media

My media skills where further developed whist teaching…

On seeing the impact the use of video had on teaching and learning I decided I wanted to pursue the use of video on websites further so I set up Video Edge to provide companies videos to give their products the edge – the Video Edge. I did this part time whilst at the same time taking on the part time role at Howden School of media manager, this entailed me taking and organising videos and photos around the school and also in the school’s feeder primary schools.
This gave me an insight into primary school education and gave me the idea of Agriculture 4 U which provided curriculum videos of food and farming to help teachers bring the farm yard into their classroom. During a visit to a school promoting this work I was introduced to Graham Ward MD of Stockbridge Technology Centre whose research foundation does lots of work around growing 5 a day with schools.

Together we developed the idea of Discovering Our Countryside which initially provided short fortnightly videos of food farming and the seasonality of the countryside.

From this developed the  ‘Discovering Science on the Farm’ project which won the Bayer / FACE ‘Inspiring Educator’ award 2015.

Going back to teach agricultural apprentices was like I said going back home to my roots in agriculture – the wheel has turned full circle, and is now often computer controlled….
