Agriculture

Being born and brough up a farmer gives me an extensive knowledge of farming…

The twenty plus years I grew up and worked in agriculture means I have an extensive knowledge of all aspects on modern UK Agriculture.

Having been brought up on a farm this was the career path I followed after completing A levels in Biology, Maths and Physic. I then completed a degree in Agriculture at Newcastle University in 1985 – BSc (Hons) Agriculture (Animal Production).

On completing my degree I returned home to work on the small family farm with my father and sister. During this time I was involved with both the management and day to day tasks of both the breeding fattening pig unit and arable enterprises. My life in agriculture also means I have a good working knowledge of most other agricultural enterprises.

The management side of this work saw me develop the following skills as I computerised the accounting and recording and introduced analysis of the pigs and crops:

Accounting skills:

Cash Book Analysis; Double entry book keeping; VAT records etc.

Computing skills:

Spreadsheets (Excel); Word processing (Word); Database (Access)

Interpersonal skills:

Excellent Communication.
