On leaving agriculture I used the degree I had gained to allow me to take a PGCE and become a science and ITC teacher. I then taught at Howden School for 6 years during which time I helped set up, teach and assess new GCSE’s in Applied Science and Business and Communication Systems. I also developed the science web site on the school intranet; organised science and ICT recording system to monitor students’ progress; set up a database and mail merge for student reports.
With my IT skills and my willingness to try new things “operate outside my comfort zone” as the saying goes I pioneered the use of short video clips, which I captured from the TV or filmed myself, and the use of a digital projector and interactive whiteboards in the school.
